¾ oz. mezcal

¾ oz. green Chartreuse

¾ oz. fresh lime juice

Lime wedges for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Add Luxardo Maraschino Originale, mezcal, green Chartreuse, and fresh lime juice to a shaker with ice.  Shake until chilled.

Mezcal last word

A modern, mezcal spin on the Prohibition-era cocktail with a lot to say.

Make this classic at home.

Luxardo Maraschino Originale

he Last Word’s beginnings at the Detroit
             Athletic Club sparked a never-ending
conversation that shaped bar culture for an entire century — with notable points made by the mezcal-based variation of the cocktail in the 2010s.

The Mezcal Last Word — also known as the Closing Argument — keeps ingredients fairly consistent with the original Last Word, but boldly replaces the traditional floral gin with a mezcal of your choice.  It raises the question of just how many gin-based cocktails are made more unique by the substitution of mezcal… but that’s all we’ll say about that for now.
