Ingredients
¾ oz. Luxardo Maraschino Originale Liqueur
¾ oz. mezcal
¾ oz. green Chartreuse
¾ oz. fresh lime juice
Lime wedges for garnish
Directions
Step 1
Add Luxardo Maraschino Originale, mezcal, green Chartreuse, and fresh lime juice to a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled.
Step 2
Strain mixture into a chilled coupe glass.
Step 3
Garnish the finished cocktail with a lime wedge, and serve.

Athletic Club sparked a never-ending
conversation that shaped bar culture for an entire century — with notable points made by the mezcal-based variation of the cocktail in the 2010s.
The Mezcal Last Word — also known as the Closing Argument — keeps ingredients fairly consistent with the original Last Word, but boldly replaces the traditional floral gin with a mezcal of your choice. It raises the question of just how many gin-based cocktails are made more unique by the substitution of mezcal… but that’s all we’ll say about that for now.
